New style showroom boosts sales
Dolphin Mobility in Manchester opened the doors to its refurbished Salford showroom 12 months ago and is celebrating a year of increased footfall and a larger customer base. The company is anticipating a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in turnover thanks in part to the new showroom.
The refurbishment was made possible by a regeneration grant from Salford City Council as part of the redevelopment of an area in Eccles, Dolphin Mobility then matched the council’s investment which enabled the company to substantially enhance the premises, with the most significant change being to the shop front which was bought forward in line with the pavement on the busy road.
As part of the ongoing redevelopment, the shops in the area are being refreshed through a building front improvement scheme. According to Salford City Council, since the scheme commenced in 2008, over 80 building frontages have already benefited from a ‘face lift’, with 95 local jobs being safeguarded, 14 units having been brought back into use and shop owners, including Dolphin Mobility, reporting increased trade.
Clair Wilkinson, Business Development Manager, commented: "The difference the refurbishment has made is incredible. Where previously people would often walk past the building as we were set back from the main road and would often get missed, new customers and clients are visiting us and actually asking how long we have been open! They are incredibly surprised when I tell them we have been open since 2001.”
According to Manager Dave Barratt, they are now able to invite more potential customer and professionals alike into the showroom for demonstrations and open days: "The showroom is much more bright and airy. The refurbishment has given us the space to be able to display our products better and carry out demonstrations when needed, enabling people to see the complete portfolio we have on offer.”
Dolphin Mobility’s Chris Nicholas added: "The refurbishment has enabled us to offer healthcare professionals, such as Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, the facility for CPD (continued professional development) by way of training sessions on our stairlifts, hoists and specialised equipment.”
Another high point of 2013 has seen the company being awarded a place on Salford City Council’s framework partnering project, making it the only non-manufacturer on the scheme. The framework helps the council to send out strictly approved contractors on various jobs around the area based on cost, quality of their work, the products they stock and their ability to complete time sensitive projects. Craig Dunnage, Director of Dolphin Mobility commented: "We are incredibly grateful to Salford City Council for giving us the opportunity to be included in their framework as an approved contractor. This will allow us to continue to provide the people of Salford and the surrounding areas with top quality products and services.”
Most of Dolphin Mobility’s business comes by way of word-of-mouth thanks to the company’s professional yet caring approach. Clair said: "When I joined the company nearly 20 years ago I was struck by what an incredibly compassionate organisation it was and that ethos is still here today. We always go the extra mile when working with a customer and refuse to be beaten by even the most unique request. It never fails to amaze me how loyal our customers are; for example, a customer who used our services nearly a decade ago recently recommended us to a consultant at Trafford Hospital.”

Buying a Stairlift - Advice
The Dolphin Stairlifts branch covering Hampshire and Dorset have some advice on their website to help people get a good deal when they buy a stairlift.

- Don't buy a stairlift from someone who tries to make you buy that day.
- If a salesman is pushy be very wary, they may not be nice to deal with once your stairlift is installed.
- The cost of stairlifts can vary greatly for exactly the same product. Call around to compare prices.
- Find out how much the firm charges to attend breakdowns.
- Some companies will not attend to your stairlift unless you take out an expensive contract.
- For most straight stairlifts you shouldn't have to pay a deposit because the stairlift can be used elsewhere if you need to cancel your order.
- Curved Stairlifts require a deposit to be paid owing to their bespoke design.
- A lot of stairlift companies sell leads to other companies this could leave you facing expensive call out charges in the future and make it difficult to get problems resolved should something go wrong with the stair lift.
- Be wary of firms that start to reduce their prices after they have left your home. A common tactic is to say they have a special managers offer if you agree to order now. This is usually a sign that they have inflated their initial price.
- If you are getting several quotations, make sure they are 'like for like' quotes.
- Does the company have local engineers in case your stairlift breaks down?
- Check what is included in the warranty, eg: does '24 hour call-out' mean call out attendance 24 hours a day, or within 24 hours?
- Firms that do a lot of of national advertising on television, in glossy magazines and in national newspapers often charge their customers a lot more to cover their marketing costs.

Stannah Stairlifts Heightened Seat Height
Stannah introduce 100mm & 150mm heightened seat options
We are pleased to introduce this option for the 260 Sarum and Saxon chairs. It has been designed to assist you in offering a better seating position for the user, whilst reducing the minimum staircase width requirement.
It is recommended for users between 5ft 5” and 6ft and for those with reduced knee movement. In some cases, the minimum staircase width can be reduced by 30mm - 50mm, depending on the user’s knee flexion.
This option is only available with a reduced seat.
This option is not compatible with a powered swivel seat.
Please take the height increase into account when calculating bulkhead clearances.

Stannah Starla Stairlift for Curved Stairs
The new Stannah Starla Curved Stairlift is now available to buy from Dolphin Stairlifts with installed prices starting from £4195 including installation and up to 5 metres of rail. The Starla replaces the Sofia and Solus models and can be used on straight and curved stairs with the Stannah 420 and 260 rails respectively.
Fitted to the stairs not the wall
The Starla chair runs along slim, twin rails that are tailor-made to fit your stairs and ensure the tightest fit possible. The rail is also attached to the stairs, not to the wall, so installation is quick and clean.
Choice of colours to blend in with your décor
The widest selection of upholstery material is available in either modern leather or soft woven fabrics. Choose from a wide range of contemporary colours, so you can match the chair to your home's décor.
Easy to get on and off
Using the levers enables you to swivel the seat easily, making it simple to get off the chair. Alternatively, you can choose to have a powered swivel seat, which turns the chair to face the landing automatically.
No need to bend down to fold away chair
A powered footrest button helps with easy folding and is ideal if you have difficulty lifting your feet when getting onto the stairlift.
